Parr’s French Polish is a water based shellac polish which gives a high gloss finish with a rich deep colour.
Our polish contains no volatile chemicals and is safe for you and the environment. Can be brushed sprayed or by the following traditional method. The technique is to apply many thin coats using a rubbing pad or by using a lint free cloth.
How to apply The rubbing pad is the polishing applicator and is made from a cotton cloth wrapped around cotton wool. Load the cotton wool with the shellac polish and wrap with the cotton cloth. Squeeze the pad and rub onto the wood. Too much polish will cause ridges which will need to be removed. Gently rub pad along the grain in both directions overlapping the previous pass to form coats. Leave to dry for min 30 minutes and lightly sanding with 0000 steel wool between coats. Further applications are made with circular and figure eight passes with the final coat being a light coat in the direction of the grain. If the pad does not move smoothly apply a small drop of our danish oil but be careful not to smear the finish. Always do a small test area before starting any project to assess compatibility and end result. For best results apply in a warm, dry atmosphere, allowing 24 hours for the polished surface to harden. Keep bottle at room temperature and avoid coldness. Parr’s french polish is based on 2 lb cut.
